Antique Australian Gold Cufflinks by Willis, Melbourne, circa 1900. Engraved initials 'H.E.D'.

The oval chamfered panels, plain polished and hand engraved with the initials 'H.E.D', oval links to dumbbell shaped terminals.

Willis & Sons, a Melbourne based firm established in 1858 were originally importers and wholesalers. By 1908, Willis & Sons were located at 350 – 356 Little Collins Street. After 50 years in the jewellery business, they were one of Australia’s most prolific jewellery manufacturers. “Their gold jewellery was produced for a substantial middle-class market and ... cufflinks, dress studs, tie and stickpins were also manufactured." Marks: Unicorn Head and ‘W’ denote Willis & Sons, and 9 for 9ct gold.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The hollow dumbbells have no dents, which is unusual for cuff links of this vintage. The oval panel is 0.86mm thick, it may be possible to re-engrave initials.
