Antique Georgian Guard Chain. Dating to the early 1800's and made of pinchbeck, this chain features very unusual pierced torpedeo-shaped links and is hung with a threaded swivel clasp.

Rarely encountered, pinchbeck is a copper–zinc alloy developed in the early 18th century by London clockmaker Christopher Pinchbeck. Designed to resemble gold, it became a popular alternative for jewellery and decorative items during the Georgian and early Victorian eras. Its popularity declined in the mid-19th century with the advent of electroplating and the legalisation of low-carat gold.

Due to its rarity, genuine pinchbeck is now highly prized by serious collectors of Georgian Jewellery. It was thrilling to find this example!
