Antique Victorian Garnet Mourning Brooch. Dating to the late nineteenth century, the plain polished bow is centred by an oval cabochon garnet, or carbuncle, and suspends a similarly set heart-shaped drop. The reverse of the heart contains a glazed locket compartment retaining its original woven hair, a particularly personal element of Victorian mourning jewellery.
