Antique Victorian Operculum Cufflinks, c1900.

The heavy 15ct yellow gold links are joined by swivel catches and set with a marine shell called operculum. Also known as Cat's Eye, it was a popular souvenir of seaside resorts and appeared in gentleman’s dress jewellery during the Victorian/Edwardian period.

These cufflinks are appreciated as novelty Victorian jewellery, especially among collectors of natural history or shell-set jewellery.
