Vintage Polo Mallet Brooch, HARDY BROS. A finely modelled sporting pin in two-tone yellow and white gold.

The brooch is housed in its original fitted blue leatherette box, marked HARDY BROS. Ltd. The survival of the original retailer’s box is increasingly rare and adds considerable historical and collector value.

Sporting brooches of this type were fashionable in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, worn by both men and women as discreet indicators of leisure, status and personal interest. Polo in particular was associated with the upper echelons of society, and jewellery reflecting equestrian pursuits was often commissioned from leading jewellers.
