Australian Gold Sovereign, Sydney Mint, 1907

Sought after by both Coin Collectors and Bullion Investors, Gold Sovereigns from the Australian Mints are becoming increasingly rare. They are an impressive significant occasion gift and perfect to mark milestones such as graduations, birthdays, and christenings.

Sydney Mint

Operating from 1855-1926 the Sydney Royal Mint was established as the first overseas branch of London's Royal Mint. During it's 71 years of operation 1200 tonnes of colonial gold were minted into 150 million sovereigns.

Gold sovereigns contain a mintmark to distinguish the coins produced in London from those produced in the Colonies. This mintmark is simply a letter, that symbolises the city or country of origin. The 'S' appears above the date, at the feet of St. George's horse

Obverse: Head of the then reigning British monarch Edward VII

Reverse: Depiction of St.George slaying a dragon & the date 1908

Metal: 22ct Gold (916/1000)

Weight: 7.98 grams

Diameter: 22mm

Condition: Circulated with bruising to milled edge.

SEDGWICKS pride ourselves on sourcing and selling Antique & Estate Jewellery that is of fine quality and in great condition.

Antique & Estate Jewellery is seldom in perfect or ‘new’ condition as age is inherent for it to be classified as such. All items we sell are ‘Second-hand’ and will almost certainly show some signs of wear. These may include faint scuffmarks and small dents, even very minor repairs. These are considered acceptable when dealing with objects that have lived a full life. Any imperfections or minor damage will be listed in the description and visible in the photo.

We do ask that you carefully view the photographs provided and note we are happy to supply more images or fuller description if requested.

To help you make your assessment, many higher value items are accompanied by an Independent Valuation for Retail or Insurance Purposes.
