Traditional Ruby & Diamond Cluster Ring, the central oval ruby of estimated weight 1 carat, surrounded by ten baguette and eight single cut diamonds, total estimated diamond weight 0.25 carats. 9ct white gold. Weight 4.12 grams. Ring size W.
Rubies, like sapphires are gem varieties of the mineral corundum. (Aluminium Oxide). Long considered one of the world’s most precious gemstones, corundum is second only to diamond in terms of hardness. Rubies are the red variety of corundum and they contain chromium. A small amount of chromium in corundum will produce a pink colour, but to be considered a true ruby, rather than a pink sapphire, there must be enough chromium for the gem to be a distinctly red, or slightly purplish-red colour.
Condition: Good vintage condition. Slight scuffmarks associated with wear. This ring is a currently a large finger size but would be easy to re-size. The ruby is of even purple pink colour and transparent, very clean except for two small crystal inclusions at the side of the table. There is minor chipping to girdle at one end of the stone.
