This an unusual piece, and quite rare. An Antique Australian Pearl Pendant, by Duggin, Shappere & Co. 1900's. The pendant is bezel set with a large blister pearl, and has a seed pearl set surmount.
in the first quarter of the Twentieth Century, Duggin & Shappere were one of the largest manufacturing jewellers in Australia. Along with Willis & Sons, another prominent Melbourne based manufacturing jewellery Duggin & Shappere produced an extensive range of jewellery for the expanding Australian market.
Length of pearl 3cm. Stamped an Anchor, makers mark for Duggin, Shappere & Co.; 9ct; and a sheaf of wheat to denote carat.
Condition: Fair antique condition. Two seed pearls missing from mount. Filigree bent. Evidence of lead solder.
