Antique Australian Bee Brooch, c. 1900

A well-crafted Antique Australian brooch dating to around 1900 and designed as a double bar brooch centred by a finely detailed bee motif. The bee has a solid white opal body, the wings are accented by two natural seed pearls, and a garnet-topped doublet forms the head.

Traditionally, bees symbolise industry, diligence and perseverance—a reflection of their tireless work and highly ordered society. For this reason, bee motifs were often associated with prosperity, success and good fortune, making them appropriate gifts to mark milestones, achievements or new ventures.

The brooch is housed in its original blue velvet fitted box. While the exterior shows expected signs of age, the interior remains in good condition, adding to the piece’s originality and appeal.

A delightful and collectible example of Australian antique jewellery, combining fine workmanship, period symbolism and attractive original presentation.
