Antique Victorian Forget-Me-Not Brooch, Harry Emanuel

Mid-Victorian Forget-Me-Not Brooch, Harry Emanuel, London, circa 1860. The oval plaque with an applied gold, garnet eyed swallow, blue and yellow enamelled Forget-Me-Nots and seed pearl set birds nest. 15ct yellow gold. Weight 17.42 grams. Length 4.5cm Width 3.7cm. Purple silk and velvet lined moulded leatherette box, maker's name obscured.

Harry Emanuel, a renowned Victorian Goldsmith, Diamond Dealer & Author, was bestowed the title of Gold & Silversmith to the Queen & Prince of Wales' (1862-64). A prominent figure in the jewellery industry, Emanuel was involved in the curious Victorian practice of incorporating animal parts, birds in particular, into jewellery.

An almost identical example of the brooch is held in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

Condition: Very good antique condition, still with original bloom. No damage to enamel. Original glass loose in mount, two of the gold segments that fold down to hold the glass in place are deficient.
